Tomato Thoran
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — tomato thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 5 nos Tomato sliced and unseeded
- 2 nos Onion — sliced
- 6 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 tsp Pepper — crushed
- 1 piece Ginger
- 11/2 cup Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
- 1 tbsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing tomato thoran, fry the ingredients: mustard, onion, green chillies, coconut and curry leaves in oil.
Step 2
Add tomato and fry again.
Step 3
Add the rest ingredients when the tomato is cooked, Stir everything together thoroughly and take it from flame. Serve hot.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
