an easy to prepare fish curry with very less number of ingredients. Easy Mathi Curry is a spicy fish delicacy, very popular in Kerala. A tangy flavored red fish curry that goes well with rice, parotta, pathiri and cooked tapioca.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Sardine/Chala
- 2 nos Onion — chopped
- Curry leaves, a few
- 5 nos Dry chillies
- Coconut oil, to taste
- 1 piece Gambooge Kudampuli
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Easy Mathi Curry, first clean sardines well and wash with some vinegar to remove the smell. Drain well. Then crush onion and dry chillies to a rough mixture.
Step 2
Heat oil and fry the crushed onion mixture in it. Add salt and curry leaves.
Step 3
Add gambooge and required water. Gambooge spices up the tangy flavor of the curry dish. You can adjust the tangy flavor by adding gambooge pieces.
Step 4
Add sardine or mathi fish pieces and cook it. Mathi cooks very easily and requires just a few minutes. Once cooked and done, remove the vessel from fire.
Step 5
Finally, pour little oil on top and serve the spicy, delicious curry with rice. You will love the dish. Sardines are very nutritious, healthy and economical too. Mathi should be included in your menu chart and should be consumed at least once a week. This curry dish is an apt one for working mothers and bachelors who are always short of time.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
