Pappaya Puttu
Grated pappaya mixed with rice powder, grated spinach and carrot to make puttu.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1 cup Rice flour
- 1/2 cup Pappaya — grated
- 1/4 cup Spinach — finely chopped (Cheera)
- 1/4 cup Carrot — grated
- 1 tsp Ginger — chopped
- Coconut, as needed — grated
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Get a wide bottomed vessel and pour rice flour. Add grated pappaya, chopped spinach, grated carrot, ginger and required salt.
Step 2
Sprinkle sufficient water to make a consistency of puttu.
Step 3
Fill the base part of a puttu maker with grated coconut and fill the remaining portion with rice flour mix.
Step 4
Pass steam until the pappaya puttu is ready and serve hot.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
