Minced Beef With Spinach
Beef cooked the Kerala way — with patience, a heavy hand of spices, and enough coconut oil to make the purists happy. The meat is slow-cooked until it is tender enough to fall apart, then finished with intensity.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 200 g Beef — minced
- 2 cup Spinach — chopped (Cheera)
- 1 cup Shallots — sliced (Kunjulli)
- 11/4 cup Coconut — grated
- 7 nos Green chillies slit lengthwise
- 7 nos Pepper corns — ground
- 1 inch Cinnamon (Karugapatta)
- 7 nos Cloves — crushed (Grambu)
- 1/4 tsp Cummin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 1 Dsp Garlic — crushed
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 Dsp Vinegar
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Extract coconut milk by adding 1 1/2 cup water to the grated coconut. Set aside.
Step 2
Get a frying pan and pour oil.
Step 3
Heat the oil and fry cinnamon, cloves, ground pepper and cummin seeds.
Step 4
Lower the heat and add crushed garlic. Keep stirring for some time.
Step 5
Add turmeric powder and chilly powder. Fry on low heat.
Step 6
Add the minced beef and required salt. cook for sometime till water comes out.
Step 7
Now, close the pan with a lid and cook for sometime till the water dries up completely.
Step 8
Remove the lid and add chopped spinach. cook for sometime.
Step 9
Add the extracted coconut milk and place back the lid.
Step 10
Cook on low heat until the gravy has thickened and the beef is cooked.
Step 11
Add vinegar and mix.
Step 12
Minced beef with spinach is ready and serve hot.
Tip
The coconut pieces should get slightly crispy along with the beef. They add a textural contrast that makes the dish.
