Vanpayar Vilayichathu | Vanpayar Chundal
This dal, also known as Vanpayar Chundal, is a Kerala snack made from red cowpeas (vanpayar).
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Van payar(red Cow peas
- 1 cup Cocnut — grated
- ½ tbsp Jaggery
- 1 pinch Salt
Preparation
Step 1
Cook the van payar in enough water by adding little salt.
Step 2
Drain it if there any water.
Step 3
Add grated coconut in to it.
Step 4
Add grated jaggery.
Step 5
Mix it well and serve.
Tip
Grinding spices fresh makes a noticeable difference. Pre-ground powders lose their punch within weeks. Buy whole, toast lightly, and grind as you need.
