Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 15 nos Sardine/Mathi
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp Garlic — chopped
- 10 nos. Shallots — chopped
- 1 no. Green chilly — chopped
- 1 nos Tomato — chopped
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
- 2 tsp Hot water
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- 1/4 cup Thick Coconut milk
- 1/2 tsp Ginger — chopped
Preparation
Step 1
Clean the fish and put some suits on it like.
Step 2
Marinate the sardines with the ingredients under marination given in the recipe.
Step 3
Rest it for about 1 hour.
Step 4
Get all the remaining ingredients and keep it ready for preparing the gravy.
Step 5
Heat oil a pan and let the mustard seeds crackle and add chopped ginger and garlic. stir for a few seconds.
Step 6
Then add chopped shallots and curry leaves. cook, stirring often, for a few minutes.
Step 7
Add chopped tomato and 2 tbsp hot water. Mash the tomato well. Now add all powder ingredients- kashmiri chilly powder, turmeric powder and pepper powder and cook for 30 seconds.
Step 8
Fold everything together gently, cover with a banana leaf(optional) and Let it cook for 2 minutes in low flame.
Step 9
Place the marinated Sardine on top of the masala and Continue cooking for 4 to 5 minutes on low-medium heat.
Step 10
Flip and cook the other side. Add curry leaves and pour the coconut milk on top. Keep in low flame for a few more minutes.
Step 11
Delicious Mathi Masala Fry is ready.
Tip
The final handful of curry leaves should go in right at the end, off the heat — they should crackle and crisp in the residual heat.
