Dry Fish Curry
Dry fish curry is cooked with tamarind paste, crushed shallots, garlic, kuzhambu powder and other ingredients.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 100 g Dried fish
- ¼ cup Shallots Kochulli
- 1 tbsp Garlic
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- ½ tsp Fenugreek seeds
- ½ tsp Chilly powder
- Coriander powder ¾ tsp
- 1 tsp Thick tamarind paste
- Turmeric powder A pinch
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
- 1 Tblsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and add fenugreek seeds, shallots, black pepper and garlic. Fry for 2 minutes and drain from the oil. Grind well the fried ingredients and set aside.
Step 2
Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander powder in the same oil and cook in low flame till the oil separates.
Step 3
Stir in the ground paste. Stir everything together thoroughly and add the tamarind paste and one cup of water. Bring to boil and add the dry fish.
Step 4
Put the lid on and cook in low flame till the gravy thickens. Garnish with curry leaves.

Dry fish curry, a wonderful hot and spicy side dish recipe with rice is ready.
Tip
The oil separating from the masala is your signal that the base is properly cooked. Do not add the main ingredient before you see those pools of oil on the surface.
