Corn Upma | Kerala Style Cholam Upma
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 2 cup Corn rava
- 1 nos Onion
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
- 2 nos Green chilly
Preparation
Step 1
Gather and prep all your ingredients before you begin.
Step 2
Steam cook the corn rava by adding 3/4 cup water for about 10-15 minutes.
Step 3
Pour oil into a pan and heat it, add mustard seeds, let it allow to crackle, then add onions. cook until transparent and add required salt.
Step 4
Next, add chopped green chilly and curry leaves. stir for a few seconds.
Step 5
Finally add steamed corn rava and mix it well. Keep stirring for 5 minutes. Sprinkle some water only if needed. Reduce the flame, Put the lid on and let it go for 2 more minutes.
Step 6
Easy and healthy Corn Upma is ready to serve.
Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
