Cabbage Upperi (Step By Step Photos)
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — cabbage thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 1/2 Finely Cabbage
- 1 Onion
- 2 Green chilly
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- Oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil and cook mustard in it.
Step 2
Add the cabbage, onion, green chilly and salt. cook well for 5-10 minutes in low flame.
Step 3
Add turmeric powder and cook again.
Step 4
Mix in the curry leaves and stir for 2 minutes more.
Step 5
Get it from flame and serve it with rice.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
