Cabbage, Tuvara Parippu (Redgram Dhal) Koottaan
This is a Kerala style side dish with cabbage prepared for sadhyas. This is very has lot of nutritional benefits.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 2 cup Cleaned and Chopped Cabbage
- ½ cup Tuvara parippu Redgram Dhal
- ½ Tspn Turmeric Powder
- 2 Tspns Red Chilli Powder
- Salt, to taste
- 3 nos Shallots
- OR
- ¼ cup Onion — chopped
- ¼ cup Coconut — grated
- 1 Tspn Cumin seeds
- 5 - Curry leaves
- 2 Tspns Coconut Oil
Preparation
Step 1
Cook the Tuvara Parippu (Redgram Dhal), along with Turmeric powder in a pressure cooker (after 2 – 3 whistles, turn off the heat and take the pressure cooker out from the stove).
Step 2
Add chopped Cabbage, Red Chilli Powder and Salt into the cooked Dhal along with one cup of water.
Step 3
Cook the mix in medium flame for about 5 minutes.
Step 4
After the mix is cooked properly, add the grinded Coconut.
Step 5
Next, add the Curry leaves (without frying) and Coconut oil also and stir the koottaan well.
Step 6
Cabbage, Tuvara Parippu (Redgram dhal) koottaan is ready and it can be served with cooked rice/Poori/Chapathi etc.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
