Cabbage Thoran (Step By Step Photos)
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — cabbage thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 300 g Cabbage
- ½ cup Coconut
- 2 Chillies
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Mustard, to taste
- 1 Onion
Preparation
Step 1
Grate the cabbage, onion, coconut and cut the chillies.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a vessel, add the mustard and wait till it spurts.
Step 3
Add the onion, chillies and curry leaves and sauté.
Step 4
Add the grated cabbage.
Step 5
Do not add water as the water in the cabbage is sufficient to cook.
Step 6
Add the grated coconut finally and take it off the heat and serve.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
