Wheat Unniyappam.
Wheat Unniyappam is a tasty tea time snack that can be easily prepared at home. Soft Unniyappams are a vogue in Kerala. Very popular in Kerala, Wheat Unniyappam is a snack you will relish to the core, loved by young and old alike.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 2 cup Wheat flour
- 2 cup Jagerry — grated
- 3 nos Banana I used palayamkodam
- 1/4 tsp Sesame
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
- 2 tsp Ghee
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Oil — for frying
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Wheat Unniyappam, first melt the grated jagerry with 1/2 cup of water and set aside.
Step 2
Mash the bananas in a mixie and set aside.
Step 3
Add the wheat flour, mashed bananas, jaggery syrup and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 4
Add cardamom powder, sugar, sesame, ghee to the mixture and Stir everything together thoroughly by adding water if required. The batter should be of dropping consistency.
Step 5
Heat the oil in an unniyappam chatti, drop spoonful of the batter into the oil (low flame) and fry in hot oil till both sides become golden brown.
Step 6
Serve it hot with a cup of tea or coffee.
Tip
The swirling motion takes practice. Your first two appams will likely be imperfect — consider them warm-up rounds.
