Wheat Idiyappam | Gothambu Idiyappam | Wheat String Hoppers
Wheat Idiyappam (Gothambu Idiyappam), a healthy Kerala-style wheat string hoppers recipe alternative. Seamed and perfect with curry.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 cup Wheat flour
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- Hot water, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Dry roast the wheat flour on medium heat for one minute.
Step 2
Transfer to a bowl and season with salt to your taste.
Step 3
Heat water to a boil. Pour hot water over it.
Step 4
Stir everything together thoroughly. Once it starts to come together, cover the bowl with a lid and let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Step 5
After 15 minutes, add a teaspoon of oil and mix with hand into a soft dough.
Step 6
Now take your string hopper maker and fill it with the dough. Take banana leaves add some grated coconut.
Step 7
Spin the string maker so that you will get the dough as threads over it.
Step 8
Steam it for 8 to10 minutes.
Step 9
Remove and serve along with veg or non veg curries.
Tip
A well-seasoned appachatti is worth the investment. The appam should release from the pan without any resistance.
