Vethakuzambu - Brahmin Special
Tuvar dal, chana dal, onion and other ingredients are cooked together.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 3 tbsp Tuvar dal
- 2 tbsp Chana dal
- 2 nos Onion — chopped
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- Asafoetida A pinch (Kayam)
- 1 piece Jaggery (Sharkkara)
- 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
- 4 tbsp Sambar powder
- 4 tbsp Coconut oil
- Tamarind Lemon size
- 2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing vethakuzambu - brahmin special, first fry mustard seeds, tuvar dal and chana dal in coconut oil.
Step 2
Add onion and fry for few minutes.
Step 3
Soak tamarind in water. Squeeze tamarind out and add fried items of the 1st step to the tamarind water.
Step 4
Add turmeric powder, salt, red chilly powder, sambar powder, jaggery and cook for a few minutes. Add asafoetida and keep cooking till the dish becomes thick and gravy like.
Step 5
Add curry leaves.
Step 6
Vethakuzhambu - brahmin special recipe, is ready.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
