Vermicelli Balls
A home-style Kerala dish made with care and the kind of spice knowledge that comes from watching someone else cook it a hundred times. Each step matters, and the result is worth the effort.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- Vermicelli : 100 gm — roasted
- Coconut : 1 half — grated
- Sugar : 12 tsp
- Rava : 3 tsp — roasted
- Ground nuts / cashew nuts : 15 pcs — roasted
Preparation
Step 1
Heat oil and roast the vermicelli, if not already roasted.

Transfer it to a bowl.

Add the grated coconut.
Step 5
Add sugar to it along with a half cup of water (100 ml).

When the water starts to boil, add the roasted vermicelli to this, along with roasted rava and nuts.

Cook until the whole water evaporates.
Step 10
Make into small balls when cools. Refrigerate and use.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
