Vendakka Puli (Palakkadan Style)
Vendakka Puli cooked in Palakkadan Style is an awesome dish with the goodness of coconut and tangy tamarind. The spicy flavorful gravy of Vendakka Puli with hot rice will make your noon day meal an able one.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 10 nos Ladies finger — cut into 1 inch long pieces, vendakka
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 10 nos Shallots Cheriyulli
- 2 tbsp Coriander seeds or powder
- 3 Or Red chilly or powder
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds Vendhayam (Uluva)
- Tamarind A small lemon size ball — soaked in 1 cup water (Puli)
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Vendakka Puli (Palakkadan Style), first cook coriander and red chilly in 1 tbsp oil.
Step 2
Add fenugreek and cook until it goes golden brown.
Step 3
Grind this with coconut and shallots.
Step 4
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
Step 5
Cook ladies finger.
Step 6
Add tamarind juice and salt.
Step 7
Once it cooks, add the ground masala and boil.
Step 8
Garnish with allow to crackleed mustard, finely chopped shallots, red chilly and curry leaves.
Step 9
Vendakka puli tastes better the next day.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
