Vellarika Morucurry
A traditional Kerala curry where mixed simmers gently in a spiced coconut gravy until every piece soaks up the flavours. The curry leaves and raw coconut oil finish add that characteristic Kerala fragrance.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 nos Vellarika 500 gm
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- Water to cook
- 4 large Curd
- Curry leaves
- 4 nos Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Mustard seeds
- Coconut half
- 5 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 small Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 1/2 small Mustard seeds
Preparation
Step 1
Cook vellarika along with salt and turmeric powder in a little water.
Step 2
Grind coconut with green chillies, mustard and cumin.
Step 3
Once vellarika is cooked, add the ground coconut paste and simmer the flame.
Step 4
Beat curd with a little water and mix it with the curry.
Step 5
Leave for about 3 minutes and finally garnish it with allow to crackleed mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chillies. Serve hot.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
