Vazhakka Thoran
A raw banana stir fry prepared in a style. A must during Sadhyas and is a popular vegetarian side dish that goes well with hot rice.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 6 nos Raw bananas
- 1/2 nos Coconut
- 6 nos Green chilies
- 1 g Turmeric powder
- 2 nos Garlic cloves
- 1 nos Red onion Kunulli
- Salt, to taste
- 15 ml Coconut oil
- 10 g Sesame seeds Ellu
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Vazhakka Thoran, peel and cut the banana into cubes and wash them well.
Step 2
Grind together green chillies, turmeric, coconut, garlic and onion. Set aside.
Step 3
Add 1 cup of water to bananas and cook till nearly dry.
Step 4
Add salt.
Step 5
Add ground ingredients to cooked bananas. Allow steam to pass through.
Step 6
Stir everything together thoroughly and check the seasonings.
Step 7
Heat oil and crackle sesame seeds, add curry leaves and fry them for a second.
Step 8
Transfer the cooked bananas to a serving dish and temper with the sesame seeds and curry leaves.
Step 9
Vazhakka Thoran is ready.
Tip
This same method works for almost any vegetable: beans, beetroot, carrot, raw banana — swap the main vegetable and keep everything else the same.
