Vayakatti (plantain Flower)upperi
This is a healthy naadan upperi and its an excellent source of fiber.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 1 Vayakatti plantain flower
- Coconut half piece
- 3 Dry red chilly
- 2 Green chilly
- 5 Shallots
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Remove the outer skin of plantain flower and cut into small pieces.
Step 2
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil allow to crackle the mustard in it and add dry red chilly.
Step 3
Add plantain flower,turmeric powder and salt.cook it, stirring again for 5 minutes.
Step 4
Grind the coconut with shallots,green chilly and curry leaves.
Step 5
Add it into the upperi and cook it again for 2 minutes.
Step 6
Serve it with rice.
Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
