Easy Traditional Kadala Curry
A traditional Kerala curry where quail simmers gently in a spiced coconut gravy until every piece soaks up the flavours. The curry leaves and raw coconut oil finish add that characteristic Kerala fragrance.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 cup Kabul Channa
- 2 Tomato
- 6 Curry leaf
- 1 Spoon Salt
- 2 Onion
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 Spoon Chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Gram masala
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 2 Red chilly
Preparation
Step 1
Soak kabuli channa for 6 hours.
Step 2
Pressure cook it with enough water till it is soft.
Step 3
Now cooked Channa is ready.This we have to set aside.
Step 4
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil add onions and fry 2 minutes. Then add tomatoes, chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and gram masala and fry for 2 minutes.
Step 5
Cook till the raw smell goes. give it a good stir till tomato bllends well. Now fried masala is ready.set aside.
Step 6
Add 1 spoon of fried masala to boiled Channa and mix, blend all together.
Step 7
Add salt also.
Step 8
Grind balance masala and 2 spoon channa in a mixer.
Step 9
Grind as a nice paste.
Step 10
Add this ground paste to cooked channa masala let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Step 11
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil and add 1 tsp mustard,red chilly and curry leaves.
Step 12
Add this tempering to Channa masala.
Step 13
Let it bubble for 2 minutes.Now easy traditional kadala curry to serve.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
