Unnakka Chemmeen Kaya Curry | Dry Prawns with Raw Banana
Its a naadan dish ,which is too good with rice and chappathi.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- Green banana or unriped banana) 4 (Pachakka)
- Unnakka chemmeen 1 cup
- Green chilly 4
- Curry leaves 3 sprig
- Black kokum 2 pieces
- Red chilly flakes 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder : 2 tsp
- Shallot 6
- Dried red chilly 3
- Mustard : 2 tsp
- Coconut 1 table spoon
- Whole shallot 2
- Whole garlic 2 cloves
- Coconut oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Get dried prawns in a plate.
Step 2
Get pachakka or green banana or kaaya and peel its hard skin.
Step 3
Slice it to small pieces.
Step 4
Heat a pan and add oil when its hot.
Step 5
Add dried prawns or unnakka chemmeen to it.
Step 6
Add pachakka,green chilly and curry leaves to it.
Step 7
Add 1 cup of water to it.
Step 8
Add turmeric powder, red chilly flakes and salt.
Step 9
Mix it well and add black kokum to it. Close the pan and keep in low flame.
Step 10
Mean while take coconut, shallot and garlic in a blender.
Step 11
Add 1 tablespoon of water and grind it well.
Step 12
Then check our pachakka is cooked or not.
Step 13
When its cooked add the coconut mix to it.
Step 14
Mix it well and when it boils,turn off the heat.
Step 15
Heat a small pan and add oil to it when its hot add mustard and when it allow to crackles add shallot, dried red chilly, currry leaves.
Step 16
When its brown,off the flame.
Step 17
And transfer to the pachakka.
Step 18
Mix it well.
Step 19
Our dish is ready to serve.
Tip
The oil separating from the masala is your signal that the base is properly cooked. Do not add the main ingredient before you see those pools of oil on the surface.
