Tur Dal Parippu Curry
A twist to the parippu curry tasty and time saving, made with tur dal or sambar parippu.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 cup Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)
- 2 tbsp Pearl onions — minced (Kunjulli)
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
- 3 - Garlic pods
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 nos Green chillies — slit
- 2 tbsp Dry coconut powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1/2 tsp Cumin powder (Jeerakam)
Preparation
Step 1
Cook the dal with enough water, salt, turmeric, garlic and green chillies in the pressure cooker until dal is soft and mushy.
Step 2
Heat 1/2 the ghee in a pan.
Step 3
Fry the minced pearl onions until soft.
Step 4
Add the curry leaves and sauté.
Step 5
Add the cooked dal and bring to a rapid boil.
Step 6
Add the coconut powder and cumin powder.
Step 7
Add water to your like and adjust the seasonings.
Step 8
When it boils well, remove from fire.
Step 9
Goes well with rice and papad and top with remaining ghee.
Tip
Coconut oil and curry leaves at the very end, off the heat, give the curry its characteristic Kerala aroma. Never skip this final step.
