Try This Easy Konj Masala
The smell of chicken cooking in coconut oil with curry leaves is the smell of every fishing village kitchen in Kerala. Quick to cook, deeply satisfying, and always served with hot rice.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- Konj (big prawns) : 10 nos
- Salt : 2 tsp
- Chicken Chilly Masala : 4 tsp
- Soya Sauce : 4 tsp
- Tomato : 3 nos
- Onion : 2 nos
Preparation
Step 1
Marinate the prawns with 1 tsp of salt, 2 tsp chicken chilly masala and 2 tsp soya sauce.
Step 2
Keep it for 30 minutes.
Step 3
In a grinder, take 2 tomatoes and paste them. Cut the other tomato into small pieces. Also, chop the onions into small size.
Step 4

Insert tooth picks inside the prawns, in order to maintain its shape.
Step 6
Fry in hot oil the prawns for 3-4 minutes.

Set a pan on the stove, heat oil and add the chopped onions.

When they becomes light brown, add the tomato pieces.
Step 10
Add 2 tsp soya sauce together with tomato paste and add Salt.
Step 11
Cook in low flame until it becomes thick.
Step 12
Add fried prawns to this. Add 2 tsp chicken chilly masala and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 13
Cook for a minute and serve hot.
Tip
Do not boil the curry hard after adding coconut milk. A gentle simmer is all you need — vigorous boiling can cause the coconut milk to split.
