Traditional Padavalanga Thoran
A classic Kerala thoran where mixed meets freshly grated coconut in a quick, dry stir-fry. Mustard seeds crackle in coconut oil, curry leaves crisp up, and the whole thing comes together in minutes.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 tsp Rice
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 2 Snake gourd
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Onion
- 4 Green chilly
- 1 tsp Coconut oil
- 1/2 cup Water
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Pour oil into a kadai and heat it add mustard seeds,when it allow to crackles add rice and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 2
Add curry leaves and cook for a minute.
Step 3
Next, add washed and chopped snake gourd into this and cook for a minute.
Step 4
Grind coconut,cumin seeds,green chilly,chili powder and onion in a mixer.
Step 5
Add this ground mix to snake gourd and cook for a minute.
Step 6
Add 1/2 cup water and salt to this and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 7
Close the kadai with lid and Let it cook for 5 minutes.
Step 8
When it is cooked and water dries up we can switch off stove.
Step 9
Now traditional padavalanga thoran is ready.
Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
