Traditional Kerala Puttu
Kerala Puttu is a and healthy breakfast dish in Kerala Cuisine. Kerala Puttu is one of the simplest of breakfast dishes with a crumbled texture and appearance.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Puttu powder raw rice soaked, powdered and roasted slowly to remove moisture
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Salt
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing traditional kerala puttu, first mix salt with lukewarm water. Sprinkle water slowly to the rice powder and make it moist and sort of crumble. Take care that the puttu powder is not too much moist.
Step 2
Get the crumbled and moist rice powder in a blender and blend. Too much blending will make the puttu powder too much moist. One single run is enough.
Step 3
For making puttu a special steaming vessel is used named puttukutti. Put a tablespoon of grated coconut in the puttukutti and then put 2-3 tablespoons of moist rice powder. Repeat till it is filled.
Step 4
Close the lid and steam the rice mixture for 2 minutes. Serve the delicious Puttu with kadala curry or a combination of sugar and bananas. This is a healthy breakfast dish, very popular in Kerala.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
