Toddy Shop Fish Curry | Kallu Shappu Meen Curry
This fish, also known as Kallu Shappu Meen Curry, is a and beloved dish from the coastal state of Kerala, India.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Seer Fish / Shark
- 3 tsp Chilly powder
- 4 tsp Coriander powder
- 5 Garlic cloves chopped, big
- 3 nos Onion — cut into long slices
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek (Uluva)
- 2-3 piece Kukum star(Kudampuli — soak in salt water
- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder
- 3-4 tsp Oil
- 3 tsp Salt
- 2-3 nos Tomato — chopped
- 10 nos Curry leaves
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the red color Toddy Shop Fish Curry, first soak chilly powder, coriander powder and salt in a cup.
Step 2
Heat 3 tsp of oil in a non stick pan.
Step 3
Add fenugreek seeds and stir till they become dark brown.
Step 4
Add garlic and stir for 2 minutes.
Step 5
Add onions and stir again.
Step 6
Add chopped tomatoes and stir fry.
Step 7
After 5-6 minutes, put the soaked water of kukum star. Reduce the flame and give it a good stir for 5-10 minutes so that everything gets mixed well and the oil gets separated.
Step 8
Add 3-4 cups of water, stir and boil it.
Step 9
When it starts to boil, slip in the fish pieces along with the kukum star pieces.
Step 10
After 10-15 minutes, the gravy will thicken to a dark brown colour and the fish will get cooked as well.
Step 11
DON`T STIR AFTER THE FISH IS COOKED.
Step 12
Add curry leaves.
Step 13
Serve the dish after 1-2 minutes.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
