Thakkali Thoran
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — tomato thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 5 nos Tomato slices, unripe
- 4 nos Green chillies — chopped
- 11/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1 nos Onion — chopped
- 1 tsp Ginger — chopped
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 2 nos Dry chillies
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing thakkali thoran, heat oil, let the mustard seeds crackle and dry chillies. Add curry leaves.
Step 2
Add onion, green chillies and ginger.
Step 3
Add tomato and fry it.
Step 4
Add coconut grated and mix it. Add turmeric, pepper and salt.
Step 5
Thakkali thoran is ready.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
