Tender Coconut Payasam
A recipe with tender coconut pieces. Tender coconut is cooked with milk and sugar is added at a later stage. It is then flavored with nutmeg powder and cardamom.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 2 cup Tender coconut scraped from shell and — cut into small pieces
- 1 litre Cow’s milk
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder (Elakka)
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg powder Jathikka
- 2 tbsp Cornflour
- 20 g Cashew nuts
- 20 g Raisins Unakka munthiri
- 1 tbsp Ghee
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing tender coconut payasam, cook the coconut pieces in 1/2 cup water.
Step 2
When cooked, add milk to the coconut pieces and bring to boil.(Leave about 5 tbsp of milk for later use).
Step 3
Add sugar and wait for it to thicken a bit.
Step 4
Heat ghee in a pan, fry the nuts and raisins and pour into milk mixture.
Step 5
Get the 5 tbsp milk and mix cornflour in it. Pour into the milk mixture.
Step 6
Wait for it to boil and thicken. take it off the heat.
Step 7
Tender coconut payasam recipe is ready.
Tip
The payasam will thicken significantly as it cools. Stop cooking when it is still slightly thinner than your target consistency.
