Tasty Onion Dosa
Crispy on the edges, soft in the middle — this tasty onion dosa is a breakfast staple across Kerala. The batter comes together quickly and the dosa cooks in under a minute on a hot tawa.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 cup Raw rice
- 1/2 cup Split black gram Parippu (Uzhunnu)
- 1 cup Sour curd
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Soda bi carbonate - A pinch
- Asafoetida A pinch, Kaayam
- 1 nos Onion — finely cubed
- 4 nos Green chillies — finely chopped
- 2 Springs Curry leaves — finely chopped
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Onion dosa, soak raw rice and split black gram separately over night.
Step 2
Grind it separately in a blender till smooth. Mix both the batters together.
Step 3
Mix in sour curd, soda bi-carbonate and salt with required water to get a thin batter. Set aside for 15 minutes.
Step 4
Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a small frying pan. let the mustard seeds crackle and then add asafoetida powder.
Step 5
Next, add the onion, curry leaves and green chillies.
Step 6
Fry till the onion becomes transparent. Allow it to cool and add into the batter.
Step 7
Heat a tawa and pour a ladle full of the batter and make dosa`s. Fry it on both the sides.
Step 8
Onion dosa`s are ready. Serve right away with chutney.
Tip
The pan must be properly hot before you pour the batter. Sprinkle a few drops of water — if they sizzle and evaporate immediately, the temperature is right.
