Tasty Nadan Chena Theeyal
A styled dish, very popular in Kerala. No Sadhya is ever complete without a tasty theeyal dish. Chena also termed Yam is a very popular vegetable widely cultivated in Kerala.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 cup Chenna
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 Tomato
- 5 Curry leaves
- 2 Red chili
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the traditional styled Dish, first cook chena in 1 cup water and salt for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Fry grated coconut with turmeric powder, coriander powder and chili powder for 2 minutes.
Step 3
Grind it in a mixer.
Step 4
Heat a kadai add chena mix, add ground mix to this, add a tomato and salt to this. Stir everything together thoroughly and heat in low flame.
Step 5
Heat the oil in another kadai add mustard, red chili and curry leaves. cook for a minute.
Step 6
Add this tempering to kadai and Stir everything together thoroughly. let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Step 7
Delicious dish with an aromatic coconutty flavour is ready. The dish goes well with hot rice for noon day meals.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
