Sweet Semiya Upma (Step By Step Photos)
A traditional Kerala sweet that balances richness with restraint. Made with jaggery, coconut, and a careful hand, the sweetness is warm rather than overwhelming — the kind of flavour that lingers.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 500 g Semiya
- Salt, to taste
- Oil few drops
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- Sugar, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Boil the water in a vessel, once the water starts bubbling add the semiya, few drops of oil and salt as needed.
Step 2
Stain the excess water and wash it in the running water to remove the stickiness and pressure cook for about 5 minutes.
Step 3
To the cooked semiya add coconut.
Step 4
Add sugar as well.
Step 5
Mix it and serve.
Tip
Ghee quality matters enormously in traditional sweets. Use homemade ghee if you can — the flavour is incomparably richer.
