Sprouted Moong Dal Masala
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 cup Sprouted Moong Dal
- 1 nos Onion
- 1 nos Tomato
- Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Chilli Powder
- Turmeric Powder
- ½ tsp Pepper Powder
- Sugar A pinch
- Salt, to taste
- Water, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil.
Step 2
Add cumin seeds and then fry the onion till it changes colour.
Step 3
Add tomato and fry until softened.
Step 4
Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 5
Stir everything together thoroughly and then add the sprouted dal. give it a good stir.
Step 6
Add one cup of water and cover it with a lid and let it cook.
Step 7
When the dal is cooked and the mixture is dry, add pepper powder and sugar.
Step 8
Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 9
Goes well with rice or chappathis.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
