Spicy Green Gram Curry - Nurtritious
A deeply satisfying spicy green gram curry - nurtritious simmered slowly with freshly ground spices and coconut. The kind of gravy that thickens as it rests and rewards patience with layered, rounded flavour.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 2 cup Green gram Cherupayar
- 2 nos Tomato — chopped
- 1 cup Onion — chopped
- 3 piece Garlic — chopped
- 2 small Ginger — chopped
- Coconut oil or refined oil, to taste
- 3 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing spicy green gram curry, first soak the green gram in water for about half an hour and cook it in a pressure cooker for about 15-20 minutes after adding salt to taste.
Step 2
When it is cooked well, turn off the heat and remove the cooker from the stove.3)Heat oil and then add the chopped tomato, onion, garlic and ginger and fry it well. When the mix turns brown in colour, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 3
Add the cooked green gram into it and add water if needed. Boil it for further 5-10 minutes and then turn off the heat and change the curry into another vessel.
Step 4
Delicious and spicy green gram curry is ready. Also the green gram can be cooked along with chopped onion, ginger, green chilly and salt and when it is cooked well, we can add coconut oil and curry leaves into this mix and keep the vessel closed for some time. This curry can be directly served with chappathi, poori, idiyappam etc.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
