Spicy Chicken In Green Gravy Easy
Tender chicken pieces cooked in a thick, spice-heavy gravy built on caramelised shallots and coconut oil. This is the kind of Kerala chicken dish that families argue about — whose mother makes it better.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 kg Chicken
- 3 nos Onion — chopped
- 2 tsp Ginger — chopped
- 5 Cloves Garlic — finely chopped
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 2 Bunches Spinach
- Coriander leaves, a few
- Mint leaves, a few
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Chilly powder
- 3 tsp Pepper powder
- 2 tsp Garam masala
- Salt, a few
- 2 tbsp Lime juice
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 cup Fresh Cream beaten
- Oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing spicy chicken in green gravy, first cut chicken into small pieces and marinate with turmeric powder, pepper powder(2 tsp), salt and lime juice. Set aside for 2 hrs.
Step 2
Fry the marinated chicken pieces till crispy and set aside.
Step 3
Boil the spinach leaves for 5 minutes and grind it with coriander leaves and mint leaves.
Step 4
Warm the oil in a pan, fry onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies.
Step 5
Add chilly powder, garam masala, coriander powder and ground spinach leaves.
Step 6
Cook well and add fried chicken pieces.
Step 7
Gently add little water and salt. Put the lid on and cook for some time.
Step 8
When chicken is cooked, add cream and Stir everything together thoroughly. Simmer the flame.
Step 9
Finish it by sprinkling pepper powder and take it off the heat.
Step 10
Serve while still hot with chapathi. Spicy chicken in green gravy, a Favorite, is ready.
Tip
Do not boil the curry hard after adding coconut milk. A gentle simmer is all you need — vigorous boiling can cause the coconut milk to split.
