Soya Chunks Masala (Vegetarian Meat)
Tender chicken pieces cooked in a thick, spice-heavy gravy built on caramelised shallots and coconut oil. This is the kind of Kerala chicken dish that families argue about — whose mother makes it better.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1 cup Soya chunks
- 1/2 Of Coconut
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- Garlic a clove
- 2 nos Onion
- 2 nos Tomato
- 1 small Ginger — finely chopped
- 2 nos Green chilly — finely chopped
- 1 tsp Chicken masala
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- 1/4 cup Coconut pieces cut in to small pieces
Preparation
Step 1
Soak soya chunks in hot water for 20 minutes.
Step 2
Squeeze out the excess water and set aside.
Step 3
Warm the oil in a pan and fry Onion (small pieces)till colours get brown.
Step 4
Add red chilly powder, coriander powder, curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes.
Step 5
Add the ingredients along with tamarind to a blender &grind to a fine paste and set aside.
Step 6
Heat the oil in another pan and add coconut and fry till brown.
Step 7
Add cumin, garlic and fry for 2 minutes & grind the ingredients to a coarse paste.
Step 8
Heat the oil in the pan, add onion (cut length wise)and fry till brown.
Step 9
Add soya chunks and fry for 3 minutes.
Step 10
Stir in ginger, green chillies and fry for 2 minutes.
Step 11
Add tomato & cook until it blends well.
Step 12
Add the fine paste followed by the coarse paste.
Step 13
Allow this to boil in a low flame.
Step 14
Warm the oil in a pan and fry coconut pieces till brown and set aside.
Step 15
In the same pan add onions(small pieces), cook until brown and then add chicken masala powder.
Step 16
When the curry starts boiling add coconut pieces & onions to this.
Step 17
Soya Chunks Masala is ready! :- Soya Chunks Masala normally called Vegetarian Meat! :- Serve Soya Chunks Masala hot!
Tip
Marinate for at least 30 minutes if you can — the spices penetrate deeper and the chicken stays juicier.
