Unakka Maanthal Fry | Dried Sole Fish Fry
This fish, also known as Dried Sole Fish Fry, is a seafood dish that hails.

- 10 nos Unakka Maanthal (Dried Sole Fish
- 100 g Shallots/Onion
- 3 tsp Red Chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/4 tsp Pepper — optional
- 4-5 tsp Coconut/Refined Oil
- Salt, as needed
Preparation
Step 1
Soak the fish for about 30 – 45 minutes in normal water.
Step 2
After about 45 minutes clean the fishes properly (also remove skin of the fishes) and keep them aside (if necessary they can be cut into pieces).
Step 3
Grind cleaned Shallots, Red Chilli powder, Turmeric powder and Pepper along with 2 – 3 Tsp water and make a paste. Apply this paste on both sides of the fishes and keep them for some time (add salt only if required).
Step 4
Heat oil (preferably Coconut Oil) in a Cheenachatti/Frying pan and put the masala coated fishes into the hot oil and fry both sides.
Step 5
When the fishes are fried properly, transfer them into a serving plate. Maanthal (Dried Sole Fish) fry is ready.
Tip
Coconut oil is not optional in a Kerala fry. It adds a flavour that no other oil can replicate.
