Simple Home Made Chocolate
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- Cocoa Powder : 7 tsp
- Milk Powder : 2 ½ Cups
- Butter : 75 gm
- Sugar : 1 ½ Cup
- Water : 1 Cup
Preparation
Step 1
Sieve milk powder and cocoa powder and set aside.
Step 2

Heat water and sugar in a vessel and bring to a boil. Reduce flame and continue cooking till the syrup reaches one string consistency.
Step 4
Add the butter and Stir everything together thoroughly till it melts and blends with the syrup. Turn off heat.
Step 5
Add the cocoa-milk powder mixture gradually (a few tsps at a time) and Stir everything together thoroughly till glossy.
Step 6
Enter Step.
Step 7
Transfer to a pan and keep to set in a refrigerator.
Step 8
When it sets, make shapes out of it and again keep to cool.
Step 9

Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
