Sadya Special Parippu Chaar | Cherupayar Parippu Curry | Onam Sadya Special
Among the array of dishes served for Sadya, Sadya Parippu Chaar, also known as Cherupayar Parippu Curry, holds a special place.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Moong dal Cherupayar Parippu
- 3/4 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 nos Green chilly
- 2 Pinches Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 2 ½ cup Water
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Coconut Oil
- Curry leaves, a few
Preparation
Step 1
Wash and drain the moong dal / cherupayar parippu.
Step 2
Heat a kadai and add split moong dal/cherupayar parippu and fry till raw smell goes.
Step 3
In a cooker add this moong dal along with salt, turmeric powder, 1 tbsp coconut oil and 2 cups of water.
Step 4
Cook for 2-3 whistles, open the cooker and mash with a ladle.
Step 5
Make a fine paste of grated coconut, green chilly and cumin seeds.
Step 6
Add this fine paste along with 1/4 cup water to cooked dal and allow to boil.This curry should not be too thick and too loose.
Step 7
Sprinkle some curry leaves and add 1 tsp coconut oil.
Step 8
Serve.
Tip
Coconut oil and curry leaves at the very end, off the heat, give the curry its characteristic Kerala aroma. Never skip this final step.
