Sadhya Olan
A traditional Kerala Sadya dish that carries the flavours of coconut, yogurt, and carefully balanced spices. Each component of the feast has its role, and this one brings a quiet, essential balance to the banana leaf.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 2 cup Brown dal Vella payar
- 1 cup Yellow pumpkin Mathanga
- 2 Spoon Coconut oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Cook dal in a pressure cooker along with salt.
Step 2
Heat up a pan.
Step 3
Add pumpkin pieces along with a little water and cook, till it is done.
Step 4
Add the cooked dal and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 5
Allow it to boil further, till it becomes thick.
Step 6
Switch off the gas.
Step 7
Pour the coconut oil on the top of the curry.

Tip
Do not rush the onion and shallot frying. The difference between pale onions and properly browned onions is the difference between a flat dish and a flavourful one.
