Raw Banana-Vazhakka Mezhukkupuratti
A simple and flavorful dish from Kerala prepared with raw banana. It is a kerala style simple stir fry where the raw bananas are blanched and then blended with onion garlic paste seasoned with coconut oil.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Raw banana — chopped
- 1 nos Onion
- 1 tbsp Chilli flakes
- 3 Cloves Garlic
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves, a few
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing vazhakka/raw banana mezhukkupuratti, cook raw banana pieces with turmeric powder and salt.
Step 2
Drain and set aside.
Step 3
Crush onion, chilli flakes and garlic.
Step 4
Heat oil, let the mustard seeds crackle. Add curry leaves.
Step 5
Add crushed onion mixture and fry for few minutes.
Step 6
Add cooked banana and stir fry for few minutes.
Step 7
Raw banana/vazhakka mezhukkupuratti is ready. Serve hot with rice.
Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
