Rava Puttu
A breakfast/evening time snack made with semolina and grated coconut. Puttu is a common recipe in Kerala Cuisine prepared from roasted rice flour. This is a variant dish made with semolina.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1 cup Semolina/Rava
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the healthy dish, first take a bowl and add 2 tbsp grated coconut with a little warm water. Set aside.
Step 2
Heat a pan, add rava and dry roast it till the nice aroma comes from it, By the time it is roasted well, it slightly changes its color too. Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely. Add it into the bowl with coconut and mix it with your hands until the rava is well moist.
Step 3
Get a handful of rava and press it with your fist. It should hold the shape, then press it with your thumb. It should crumble, that's the correct stage of rava.
Step 4
Get the puttu maker and add the grated coconut and then add moist rava. Repeat the same and finish off with coconut. Steam let it go for 5 minutes in medium flame.
Step 5
Rava puttu is ready.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
