Pumpkin Sambhar
A very popular dish and occupies an important place in South Indian menu. It is a good combo with boiled rice.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1/4 cup Toor dal
- Pumpkin1/2 cup
- 1/2 cup Onion
- 3 cup Water
- 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- 1 tsp Sambhar powder
- 2 Tomato
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 Tomato
- 3 Red chilly
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 1 tsp Asafoetida
Preparation
Step 1
Cook dal in 3 cups of water.
Step 2
Cook pumpkin in 1/2 cup water.
Step 3
Warm the oil in a kadai and add mustard.
Step 4
.when mustard allow to crackles add fenugreek seeds, urad dal and redchilly.
Step 5
Add sambhar powder and curry leaf, Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 6
Mix together cooked pumpkin,onions tomatoes asafoetida and tempering in a vessel.
Step 7
Add cooked dal also to this. let it bubble for 5 minutes till it becomes little thick.
Step 8
Now hot pumpkin sambhar is ready to serve with hot rice.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
