Prawn Vada
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 500 g Prawns
- 1/4 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/4 cup Shallots (Kunjulli)
- 1 inch Ginger — crushed
- 4 nos Green chillies
- Curry leaves A, a few
- 1/2 tsp Dal
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Coriander leaves A, a few
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing prawn vada, clean the prawns and remove the head.
Step 2
Mix prawns, small onions, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, ginger, daal, grated coconut and salt.
Step 3
Grind it well.
Step 4
Get a spoon full of the prawn mixture and fry it in oil.
Step 5
Fry on both sides till it becomes lightly browned.
Step 6
Prawn vada is ready. Serve hot.
Step 7
Specialties: Festival recipe. You can also serve it as an evening snack.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
