Potato Sadam
A traditional Kerala sweet snack made with care and a generous hand of ghee. The kind of thing grandmothers make for festivals and grandchildren make excuses to visit for.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 3 nos Potatoes medium — cut into cubes
- 11/2 glass Rice white rice/basmati rice
- 3 glass Water
- 3 nos Onion — chopped
- 1 handful Curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- Asafoetida powder A pinch, kayampodi
- Salt, to taste
- Mustard seeds A pinch, kaduku
Preparation
Step 1
Pour water in a vessel and add cleaned rice.
Step 2
Close the lid and Let it cook for 10 minutes in light medium fame.
Step 3
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and put mustard seeds. When it crackles put onion and curry leaves. cook it, stirring. 4)Lower the flame, add potato cubes, little water for boiling and salt. 5)After potato is cooked well, add turmeric powder, chilly powder and kayam podi.
Step 4
Simmer in low flame until water dries up completely.
Step 5
Add cooked rice into pan and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Tip
Jaggery burns easily. Melt it on low heat and always strain it to remove grit before adding it to the mixture.
