Plain White Bun
A home-style Kerala dish made with care and the kind of spice knowledge that comes from watching someone else cook it a hundred times. Each step matters, and the result is worth the effort.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- All purpose flour / maida : 2 cup
- Baking Powder : ½ tsp
- Yeast : 1 tsp
- Oil : 2 tsp
- Sugar : 3 tsp
- Salt : ½ tsp
- Lukewarm Milk + Water : 1 glass (half glass each
- Sesame : to sprinkle
Preparation
Step 1
Mix all purpose flour with baking powder, yeast, sugar and salt.
Step 2
Knead well using milk & water. Add oil in between. (The milk and the water must be lukewarm. Excess heat would kill the yeast. ).
Step 3
Keep it to rise for about 45 to 60 minutes.
Step 4
Make small balls. Sprinkle sesame over them and bake in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes on 170 - 200 degree C.

Enter Step.
Step 6
Plain white bun is ready.
Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
