Pea Pod Thoran
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — mixed thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Pea pod
- 1 nos Onion
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 2 nos Dry red chillies
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seed
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Wash, clean and cut the pea pod into small pieces.
Step 2
Chop onion, green chillies let the mustard seeds crackle in oil, add dry red chillies, turmeric powder in a low flame.
Step 3
Add pea pod, chopped onion, green chillies, curry leaves, and salt. Cover with a lid and cook well in low flame.
Step 4
Serve it with rice.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
