Parippu Vada | Dal Vada
Sweet, rich, and deeply satisfying — this is the snack that shows up at every Kerala celebration, temple festival, and Onam Sadya. Made with jaggery, coconut, and patience.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 cup Black gram (Uzhunnuparippu)
- 1/2 cup Bengal gram (Kadalaparippu)
- 1/2 cup Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- 1 nos Onion — cut into small pieces, big
- 2 nos Green chillies — cut into small pieces
- 1" piece Ginger — cut into small pieces
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- Turmeric powder A pinch
- Oil — for frying
Preparation
Step 1
Soak all the dals in water for at least 2 hrs.
Step 2
Grind these together to make a thick paste. Do not add water while grinding.
Step 3
Add onions, curry leaves, green chilly, ginger, chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 4
Wet your hands and make balls off the paste and make patties.
Step 5
Fry in hot oil in oil till golden brown. Serve hot.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
