Papaya Olathu With Prawns
The smell of prawn cooking in coconut oil with curry leaves is the smell of every fishing village kitchen in Kerala. Quick to cook, deeply satisfying, and always served with hot rice.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- Papaya 1
- Prawns 1 cup
- Onion 1
- Green chilly 3
- Dried redchilly powder 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder 1 tsp
- Salt, to taste
- Mustard 1 tsp
- Oil, to taste
- Curry leaves 2 spring
Preparation
Step 1
Peel off the skin of papaya.
Step 2
Cut it to small pieces.
Step 3
Heat a pan and pour oil in it.
Step 4
When oil is hot, pour mustard.
Step 5
Put onion and green chilly to it.
Step 6
When it sauted well put prawns.
Step 7
Close the pan to make the prawns half cooked. Then add turmeric powder and chilly powder to it.
Step 8
Give it a good stir.
Step 9
Add papaya and salt.
Step 10
Cook it, stirring well, add little water if needed. Close the pan to make it cooked.
Step 11
In between stir the papaya mix.
Step 12
Close the pan again and allow it to get cooked.
Step 13
Pour curry leaves also.
Step 14
When its cooked serve hot.
Step 15
Its good along with rice appam and chappathi.
Tip
A clay pot gives fish curry a distinctive taste that metal pans cannot replicate. If you have a manchatti, use it.
