Papaya Jam
A Cameroonian recipe for a classic jelly, made with papaya and lemon juice, that is traditionally served with bread. It is easy to make and best for this holiday season.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 500 g Riped Pappaya Peeled and seeds removed pieces
- 1 nos Lemon
- 1 cup Sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Smash/Grind the Pappaya pieces well (without adding water).
Step 2
Cut the Lemon and take out the juice and set aside (the lemon juice should be prepared just before a minute or so otherwise it will taste bitter).
Step 3
Heat the frying pan/Cheenachatty and put the smashed/grinded Pappaya paste and stir it well.
Step 4
After about five minutes add Sugar into this paste and stir it further.
Step 5
Next, add Lemon juice also and stir the mix continuously.
Step 6
When the mix is cooked well and colour turns into brown and water is evaporated fully, turn off the heat and allow to cool the mix.
Step 7
Pappaya Jam is ready and it can be used with Bread/Chappathi/Poori.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
