Padavalanga Parippu Chakkakuru Curry
A South Indian vegetarian dish with padavalam(snake gourd), chakkakuru(jackfruit seed) and parippu(lentils). The tasty dish goes well with hot rice and chappatis. The dish is nutritious, wholesome.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- 250 g Snake guard/padavalam
- 5-6 Jackfruit seed
- 1/2 cup Toor daal thuvara parippu
- 1/2 Of one Coconut — grated
- 3 Green chilly
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 2 Dry red chilly
- Curry leaves little
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
- 21/2 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
Scrape the skin of the snake guard and remove the seeds. Wash it and chop into small pieces. Take all other ingredients and keep it ready.
Step 2
Cook the above ingredients in water with turmeric powder and salt to taste. You can also cook toor dal separate in a pressure cooker.
Step 3
Grind grated coconut to make a smooth paste and pour it into curry and let it boil.
Step 4
Warm the oil in a kadai and add mustard, dry red chilly and curry leaves. When it starts allow to crackleing turn off the heat.
Step 5
Mix it with curry and serve.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
